Civil Rights Mural

The longest economic boycott in the history of the United States was not the Boston Tea Party. It was the boycott successfully conducted by the African American Community of Claiborne County from 1966-1977 for the purpose of simply being treated as human beings and fellow Americans. This exhibit pays tribute to the brave men and women who suffered and sacrificed to ensure that the United States of America lives up to the true meaning of its creed: “All men are created equal and endowed with certain inalienable rights”.  Here in Port Gibson, the heroic stands that were taken had landmark consequences not only for residents here but for people all over the nation.

No Easy Journey Exhibit

No Easy Journey combines photography, text and other archival material to commemorate that vital struggle.  The exhibit is installed in the William “Matt” Ross Administration building, named in honor of the first black supervisor to be elected in 20th century Claiborne County. It’s an educational and inspiring stop.
